US History – Brooke Frederick

Brooke enjoys sharing his passion for history with students and peers of all ages. After earning his BA in History from Whitman College, he taught and traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe. During this time, he completed his student teaching in Exeter, United Kingdom, and worked for the Department of Defense at Augsburg American High School in Germany. In 1988, he made Central Washington his home. In addition to his history background, he holds a Master’s degree in Athletic Administration and has coached baseball and football at several levels.

Now retired from Moses Lake High School (MLHS), Brooke’s career spanned 38 years, including 25 years teaching AP United States History. As the History Department Chair, he was instrumental in adding four new AP courses to the MLHS curriculum: Government, European History, Economics, and Human Geography. Beyond the classroom, Brooke served as the varsity Knowledge Bowl coach and Key Club advisor; his 2016 and 2017 Knowledge Bowl teams were both state champions.

Brooke has been a College Board APUSH exam Reader since 2001, advancing to Table Leader in 2011 and serving as an Early Table Leader for the past three years. As a College Board Consultant, he has led workshops across the West, including Washington, California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Idaho, and Colorado. He firmly believes that even master teachers can learn from their peers and actively encourages professional growth through the sharing of lessons, strategies, and experiences.

Outside of his professional life, Brooke enjoys traveling, reading spy novels, and rooting for the Seahawks, Mariners, and Washington State Cougars. He and his wife of 41 years, Mary, have two grown sons, two daughters-in-law, and two grandsons.
