Debby Shaw has taught AP English Language & Composition at North Valleys High School in Reno since 2004, during which time she has served as English Department Chair, Novice Teacher Site-Facilitator, and Mentor Program Advisor. She earned her PhD in 2019 and teaches Dual Credit English 101 through the University of Nevada, Reno. Debby has been a National Board Certified Teacher since 2010 and a College Board Consultant since 2022. Debby’s experience participating as an AP Reader and Table Leader at the AP Reading since 2011 has provided her with valuable insights into assessing and teaching reading and writing skills.
Participant Grants
College Board awards grants for qualifying teachers new to an AP subject to attend an AP Summer Institute (APSI). The request form is open March–June or until all grants have been distributed.
Who Is Eligible
To qualify you must:
- be teaching an AP course for the first time in 2026-27
- not have attended an APSI or received College Board funding for the same course
- not have received professional learning funding from your school, district, or state
