Agenda – Research
Research is an advanced class focused on the questioning and research methods students will employ at the collegiate level. Students will deeply explore an academic topic, problem, issue, or idea, which they find intellectually stimulating. Throughout the year students design, plan, and implement a concentrated investigation of a research question that they create. Their final product culminates in an academic paper of 4,000-5,000 words and a presentation with an oral defense.
This AP Research Summer Institute focuses on equipping teachers with practical activities to immediately implement upon return to their classroom. The first activity involves a wide array of successful student samples and an activity to reverse engineer the 5000 word essay into nine manageable compartments. For the remainder of the APSI, teacher vacillate between nuggets of content and the potential application of activities.
Each participant leaves with a repository of activities and lessons.
