Agenda – Comparative Government

This workshop will provide valuable insights into teaching the comparative method using the six required case studies: China, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, and the United Kingdom. Explore the latest 2019-20 course changes and dive into all five units of the Course and Exam Description (CED), ensuring that both new and veteran teachers are equipped to tackle the challenges of the revised curriculum. By attending this APSI, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will enhance your instructional planning and ability to provide feedback on individual student progress. We will cover essential topics such as understanding the course, planning effective instruction, teaching strategies, assessing student progress, and fostering engagement within the AP community. Special attention will be given to AP Classroom resources, including unit guides, personal progress checks, the AP teacher community, and the AP question bank.

Goals of this APSI:

  • Develop familiarity with the Course and Exam Description (CED) for AP Comparative Government and Politics.
  • Develop confidence in assessing student written work according to the standards of the AP Reading.
  • Develop and explore strategies to teach course concepts.
  • Develop familiarity with the online resources offered by AP Classroom.

    • Textbook
  • Student writing

What to bring:

  • Wireless-enabled laptop/tablet.
  • Lesson plan or idea to share.
