Kimberly Hermans is a computer science educator with a passion for teaching and expanding access to quality computing education. She currently teaches at Santiago Canyon College in Orange, CA, and has nearly two decades of experience teaching high school, along with roles as a lecturer at California State University, Fullerton, and the University of California, Irvine.
Kimberly holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Computer Science and is a National Board-Certified Teacher in Career and Technical Education (CTE). She is the current author of “5 Steps to a 5: AP Computer Science A”, a guide designed to help students succeed on AP exams. She developed a four-year computer science pathway at her previous high school and has taught AP Computer Science A for 15 years. Kimberly also serves as a mentor for new computer science teachers, supports students as a Girls Who Code advisor, and contributes to the professional community as a member of the Board of Directors for the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA).
Her work has been recognized with awards such as the CSTA Teaching Excellence Award (2024), the NCWIT Educator Award for Orange County (2024 and 2019), and the Greater Irvine Chamber Distinguished Educator Award (2021).
Kimberly continues to focus on helping students and teachers thrive in computer science, fostering opportunities for growth and learning in the field. When she’s not involved in computer science projects, she enjoys traveling and SCUBA diving.
