English Language – Experienced – Nanci Bush

Nanci Bush is currently an AP English Language and Composition teacher at Solon High School in Ohio.

Throughout her 30+ years in education, she has taught English 9-12, Speech, Reading, Yearbook, and Journalism.  Nanci earned a BA in English and a BS in English Education from The Ohio State University.  She earned her Master’s in Education from Kent State, writing her thesis on teacher assumptions about the writing process; she presented her findings at the International NCTE Conference in Bordeaux, France. Her professional awards include being named as a Cornell STAR Teacher Scholarship recipient in 2021, Presidential Scholar’s Honorary Teacher in 2003, and Ohio’s Outstanding Language Arts Educator in 2000.

Since 2001, Nanci has served as both a Reader, Table Leader, and sample selector for the College Board.  In her 24 years as an AP Consultant, Nanci has presented at numerous conferences and workshops, the AP Annual Conference, and Advanced Placement Summer Institutes both nationally and internationally.

Nanci’s National Writing Project experiences have made her an advocate of student publications; she has advised the school yearbook, newspaper, or literary magazine for most of her career.  In her own classroom, Bush emphasizes writing for an audience and encourages students to publish their writing.  Bush is also a fan of Multigenre papers and has presented her work at NCTE Denver with Tom Romano.  She has also published a chapter of her work on Multigenre papers in Content-Based Standards.
